As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability, Seaman Paper is striving to lead the way in eliminating single-use plastics through its partnership with Mango. At the heart of this collaboration is the implementation of Vela bags—a recyclable, paper-based alternative to traditional plastic polybags used for folded garments.

In line with Mango’s Sustainable Vision 2030 strategy, the two companies have worked closely since 2020 to test and introduce Vela bags across major sourcing regions including Turkey, China, Portugal, Bangladesh, Spain, India, and Vietnam. Each Vela bag carries the message “Goodbye Plastic, Hello Paper,” underscoring the joint ambition to drive scalable change across the fashion industry.

By 2024, the partnership had resulted in the elimination of more than 76.7 million single-use plastic bags from Mango’s supply chain. Over 66% of folded garments now arrive at logistics centres in Seaman Paper’s recyclable Vela bags. The packaging solution underwent rigorous factory-level testing to ensure durability, garment protection, and compatibility with Mango’s automated distribution systems, allowing for seamless integration at scale.

Beyond replacing plastic polybags, Seaman Paper’s Vela solution has supported Mango’s broader efforts to transform its packaging approach, including the reduction of box sizes.

Internal feedback has been positive, showing improvements in supply chain efficiency, user experience, and brand perception. Seaman Paper and Mango continue to collaborate to optimise bag sizing, streamline distribution, and expand the use of Vela across more product categories—driving a positive and scalable global impact.

In addition as a proud member of 1% for the Planet, Vela bags contributes to programs focusing on preservation ocean programs and nanoplastic research enhancing the its reduced impact on the environment.
