GREEN WHISPER®

Green Whisper® is a French company that produces 100% sustainable textiles made from waste banana stem fibres, in turn giving second life to agricultural waste and supporting local farming communities.

Summary

The company aims to use banana stem fibres to solve the issue of agricultural waste burning and dumping and to provide sustainable fabric alternatives to cotton and oil and plastic based synthetic fibres.

Green Whisper® gives a second life to the tree trunks by converting the fibres into yarns which provide an additional revenue to farmers and create local employment.

Green Whisper®’s innovative patent pending processing technology uses no chemicals and maintains the molecular chemistry of the original banana fibre so that its inherent qualities are still present in the final fabric. Positive qualities are: light weight, high tensile strength, good absorbency, moisture wicking and fire-retardant qualities.

The fabric contains no plastic, no chemical and is free from any oil based fibre. Green Whisper®’s banana fibre fabric uses 2 times less energy, uses 60% less water and emits 3 times less CO2 compared to cotton fabric.

The Green Whisper® supply chain is ethical and operates under fair trade principles.
