Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) and Visa have announced MARTAN as the Grand Prize Winner of the Visa Young Creators: Recycle the Runwayprogramme. The announcement was made yesterday on stage at Global Fashion Summit: Copenhagen Edition 2026, a leading international forum for sustainability in fashion.

MARTAN, an Amsterdam-based fashion brand, was selected from a cohort of emerging designers recognised for reimagining fashion through more circular business models. Founded in 2023, the brand has quickly gained recognition for its approach to transforming discarded luxury hotel linen into high-end ready-to-wear garments.

Powered by Visa and GFA, Recycle the Runway celebrates and supports the next generation of creative entrepreneurs working across circular fashion, including resale, repair, rental, refill, return and redistribution. The programme aims to support the transition to a more regenerative fashion system by helping creators turn circular ideas into viable, scalable businesses.

Following a detailed review process, an expert jury of industry leaders from Global Fashion Agenda, Visa Europe, Vogue, the British Fashion Council and eBay, alongside programme ambassador Gemma Styles, selected 15 winners. Five were named Prize Winners and invited to participate in Global Fashion Summit. MARTAN was chosen as the Grand Prize Winner based on the strength of its circular business model, design execution and potential for scalable impact.

MARTAN’s processes include sorting, dyeing and precision tailoring, the brand creates contemporary garments that combine refined design with circular sourcing. By repurposing existing materials, MARTAN design approach is intended to reduce reliance on virgin materials while demonstrating how circular design can operate within a commercially viable model.

Federica Marchionni, CEO, Global Fashion Agenda, said: “Recycle the Runway highlights the next generation of creators who are not only rethinking how fashion is designed and produced, but also how it can operate within a more circular system. MARTAN exemplifies this approach by combining strong design with a clear and scalable circular model. We are pleased to recognise their achievement and look forward to seeing their continued development.

Philip Konopik, SVP, Head of CMS Visa Europe said, “The standard of applications was high, but MARTAN clearly stood out, not just for creative excellence, but for a circular business model with real potential to scale. Payments and money movement play a critical role in making circular models viable and resilient, and supporting entrepreneurs like MARTAN reflects Visa’s commitment to using our tools and resources to help the next generation of fashion businesses grow in ways that are both sustainable and commercially viable.”

As the Grand Prize Winner, MARTAN will receive EUR 20,000 to invest in its business, alongside mentorship and industry exposure. Together with the four other Prize Winners, MARTAN will also participate in the programme’s co-creation initiative, where they will be matched with an innovator from Global Fashion Agenda’s Innovation Forum. MARTAN will be paired with RE&UP, to explore how circular design solutions can be integrated from concept through to final delivery.
